The Last Rose Before Winter

And just like that, Sunday’s snowfall disappeared leaving me a yard full of leaves that needed raking. I’d like to tell you that I jumped at the task with the energy and efficiency of a racing engine, but I didn’t. … Continue reading

A Leaf to Inspire

My students seemed very anxious about the winter this week. Though I sometimes paint evil pictures of shoulder high snowdrifts and temperatures which come close to absolute zero for students who come from tropical countries, I don’t want them to … Continue reading

….and Nothing

When you’ve got a “to do” list that is more like a “to do” book, and when you suspect that there might have to be a second volume to this book, then you’ve got two choices. You can either get … Continue reading

The Battle Begins Anew

Today marks the beginning of a battle that never truly ended.   Having finished my work duties….or most of them….or some of them, I was doing a little cleanup that required me to take the trash outside.  I took one look … Continue reading

Raking the Leaves

There don’t seem to be enough hours in the day to do all the things I need to do. The chores, the creative endeavours, and work seem to be piling up.  I am not losing sleep over it, but there … Continue reading

Free Stuff! (Really)

So, Saturday had a lucky moment or two.  While it is small, I think every victory or reward is worth celebrating, reflecting on, and ultimately blogging about.  So here it is. I went to the hardware store to pick up … Continue reading

Underfoot

Rain only hastens the falling of the leaves from the trees. The drops of water strip the trees bare, leaving only bloody leaf pools. Grim though it may be, I instead think of the leaves as nature’s brilliant carpet underfoot.
