Like a Kid in a Candy Store

Not me

I stopped in at the bike store on my way to pick up my girlfriend. I actually went into the plaza area for something else, but noticed that they were open–and this is no mean feat because several places I tried to go to were closed to the public–curbside pickup only.

I decided to go in and talk about my trainer issues. We went over some things and they explained that I was measuring my bike’s level rather incorrectly. We spent a bit of time talking about using the trainer and mostly about gripping too tight. Basically, I was not adjusting my positioning as I might do on the road, putting too much load on the handlebars, and was causing a bit too much stress to the trapezius muscles. At least that was the thing they told me to work on as there didn’t seem to be any reports of the trainer being at an improper height. They stressed being on a trainer was not the same as being out on the road and it was a different animal. Seemed like sound advice and I can work on that.

After talking about the trainer we moved on to other topics revolving around bikes and local bike clubs. This went on for some time. Because I was taking up two people’s time, I apologized for interrupting their work. They explained that it was winter and there wasn’t much work to do. They said I should come back and chat again.

An adult who likes cycling hanging out in a bike shop and talking about bikes is pretty much a kid in a candy store equivalent. I would love to spend more time in a bike shop–actually, I would like to spend more time riding my bike, but that’s a close second in that category. We’ll call it Saturday’s Perfect Moment.
