Unlike other trips, I am trying to plan well ahead for my trip to Colombia. Today, for example, I went for my vaccinations. I consider this quite prudent and I am happy I did it. It wasn’t as straightforward as I expected, but it all turned out well in the end. I also got some bug repellent and won’t be running around the night before trying to get it. There’s always something I leave to the last minute, but that won’t be it.
The interesting thing–the one that qualifies as Today’s Perfect Moment was meeting a mother and daughter in the waiting room. Actually, I met the daughter walking up the stairwell, but that isn’t really important. The thing was, they were also headed to Colombia and were getting their vaccinations in order. They weren’t really sure what they were going to be doing in the country as they were going to a wedding, but they thought it best that they take care of it. It helped me feel reassured about my decision. I should also note that they were leaving next weekend and they were under a bit of a time crunch. Once again, I felt reassured by my decision to take care of this early.
Beyond choosing Today’s Perfect Moment, a couple of stray thoughts came to me. The first is why have destination weddings become so popular? Are they actually cheaper, or does the flight bring down the guest numbers so that every fifth cousin once removed doesn’t have to be invited–or do they just decline to go? The second is, has Colombia become a go to destination? I know it looks beautiful, but among people I mentioned it to, they still seemed to hold onto Colombia’s old reputation and were a little nervous for me.
I am glad I am getting ready for my trip. I bought a new bathing suit and some new shirts, but I still need to get those hiking shoes and maybe poles.
Destination weddings can be fun, but I think they’re mostly burdensome. We had a year a few years back with 7 destination weddings. It was a giant pain. We had some entertaining trips, and I got very creative about wedding wear, but we were glad when it was over.
Enjoy your trip! Look forward to hearing all about it!
Thank you Donna.
