Do you ever feel like someone’s got the secret, but their not letting you in on it? Do you get told about insider deals, only to follow their instructions and not find the deals?  It seems like others know how to get great stuff or get invited to great insider experiences, but they don’t seem to happen to me.

No, this is not a post about how to get free airline tickets to travel around the world–though I would definitely read that post in a heartbeat. This is not a post about some fantastic website that sells Coach purses or Louboutin shoes for a fraction of their retail price.  This is about a secret though, and I am letting you in on it.

Just down the road from where I work, there used to be an open space in front of the bank and the shopping centre. At lunch people would congregate there and eat lunch or hang out.  It was also a place where lots of giveaways happened.  It got a great blanket from an insurance company, subway tokens, tennis balls, a gift card to the bookstore, and many other things.

I say used to because at some point, in an effort to increase space in the mall, as well as add an Aroma coffee shop and a Sephora store (home of the interestingly clad makeup artists) they took back this space and put up a building; effectively robbing people of a place to hang out.

At the time, one of my coworkers lamented its passing quite loudly. She felt it was totally unfair.  I saw it as private property owned by the shopping centre and wondered why it existed in the first place.  Being in the pricey Yonge and Eglinton area didn’t bode well for its continued existence.

What I found out today was that the space still existed; only it was now a few stories up, on top of the building. A co-worker had heard about it and told me how to get to it.  I have to say, it was awesome.  I wish there were more of these in the city.

I should also explain that I liked it because it had a great view of all the construction projects happening in the neighbourhood.
