After a Long Day

There are some days in which it is hard to find the bright spot. Those are the days when they are needed most.

Today was a day that included cataract surgery for my mother and a little procedure for myself–and I do mean little (local anaesthetic and only a few minutes of my time). Between both of these things as well as before and after there was a lot of waiting.  And when I say a lot of waiting, I mean an excruciating amount of waiting.

I was also hungry and tired. Those things shouldn’t really matter, but they did.  I also had a headache, but that was probably brought on by those first two problems.

It might seem difficult to salvage a Perfect Moment out of all that, but I think it possible on two fronts.

The Non-Material

Thanks to the wonders of communication, the ones who knew both my Mom and I were at the hospital took the time to communicate their best wishes to us. That felt pretty good and made the day much more tolerable.  It is always nice to know someone is thinking about you.  I certainly don’t want them to worry, but I am glad they were there.

The Material

Upon leaving the hospital my Mom and I stopped for ice cream at the Kawartha Dairy retail outlet in Newmarket.  Going for ice cream on a tough but sunny day seems pretty good to me.  I had a scoop of banana and a scoop of peanut butter and chocolate.

It is crucially important to state what flavours of ice cream one consumes when one blogs about ice cream. As you did. 😂🍦🍨🍧

  2. Yum. Ice cream is sometimes the best medicine and antidote. Best wishes to you and your mom 🙂

  3. I’m glad things turned out well. I’m reminded of a Grace Jones lyric: “I’m not perfect / but I’m perfect for you.” As a recovering perfectionist, I’d quote my brother who often says, “Perfect is the enemy of good.”

Hope you and your mom are doing good. I know what you mean about the waiting. It can be exhausting.

Happy to hear everything at the hospital went well for both you & your mom! Ice cream can make any day perfect. 🙂
