Briefly Booming Stats

I don’t normally check the blog stats during the day. I might glimpse at it if I posted late at night–secretly hoping that there aren’t too many comments about my poor grammar–I am an ESL teacher after all.

Today, during one of my breaks, after I finished playing words with friends, I took a quick peak at my stats. I had written the post when I should already have been asleep, and didn’t have a lot of confidence in it.  I was surprised (and confuse) because I had gotten so many views that morning.  On a good day my blog gets about 60.  On an average day, that number hovers closer to 50.  Days when I don’t write are even lower.  On this day, however, the number was over 200.

Of course I was quite happy with this statistic, but I wondered how that could be. I hadn’t posted any salacious pictures.  I hadn’t engaged in any extreme political debates.  I hadn’t even written anything that could be considered even mildly controversial.

I scrolled down to see where the views were coming from. I expected a bunch of countries, but I found only one.  Someone from the UK spent a considerable amount of time looking at my posts.  They had obviously been interested in my cycling holidays as those posts were viewed a few times.  The viewer or viewers did not post any comments, and no search engine data was confirmed.  I was rather curious.

Of course, I also worried that this was some kind of mistake. I worried that something was totally wrong in the blogverse.  Realizing that  this negative mindset needed to be overcome, I decided to feel pretty good about my luck.  Then when I had more time to think about it, I reaffirmed that it was a nice boost for me on a pretty humdrum day.

About Anthony

I am: equal parts rebel, romantic and shockingly average Joe. a writer trapped inside of an ESL teacher's body. an introverted attention seeker. a teacher who hopes one day to be called "Captain, my Captain." an intellectual who can do some very dumb things. a person whose Japan experience, despite being so long ago, still exerts a strong influence upon him. a lover of books, music, beer, hockey and Pizza.

Some days the right people just find your blog… or share your post on a social media site.
