Setting New Goals, and a Thank You or Two.

Honestly, I wasn’t going to write this post on this particular subject, but it has been a less than stellar day of banking mishaps, missed work opportunities, and missed social opportunities on the subway, which if I was feeling better I would have looked at more positively and decidedly called it Today’s Perfect Moment.

However, the whole point of this blog was to pick me up when I was feeling down. So, it is probably a good idea to celebrate my 500th follower and take care of some other business at the same time.  It is also clear that I need to keep my cynicism of the actual number of followers I have at bay.

Thank You

Thank you to anyone who has read this blog over the past few years. It does cheer me up when I see that people have read (and liked) the posts.  It cheers me up to see how many different countries are represented among my readers. It cheers me up to know that the number of people who read the blog is growing.

More than that, though, I really appreciate the comments and written conversations I have had with people here on WordPress. I might not have met some of these people in the flesh, but through their comments and their own posts, I feel as though I have gotten to know them.  I also hope that one day I will get to meet some of them in person–probably when they are on a world tour to promote their books and they are coming through Toronto and need someone to show them where to enjoy a craft beer or two.

These people are too numerous to list, but I just wanted you to know that I appreciate your comments and I hope you have continued success in blogging and life.  Actually they aren’t too numerous, I am just afraid of offending someone by leaving them out….. sorry.

Grounded Goals

I would like the blog to grow. I don’t know what number of followers I will celebrate next.  It might be 600 or it might be 1000.  It might be anything in between; like 846.  I think it will all depend on how I am feeling when any of those milestones are reached.  The number of followers is not important in the grand scheme of things, but it is nice to feel some progress.  Also, my stream of consciousness, bus laden, stories might wear thin on the current readers and they might need to be replaced.

I want to write a post that people really respond to. I don’t mean click bait, but something that people really like and get their friends to read.  I want to inspire, to delight, to challenge, to question, to provoke, the frighten, to awaken, and to amuse people out there.  It might be like catching lightning in a bottle, but I think I can do it.

I want to stop writing about women that I almost met.

I want people to look forward to my posts the way I look forward to the ones I read most diligently.

Shooting for the Stars Goals

I want my travel writing to inspire someone to sponsor me for bicycle trips. I have the vacation time, but I struggle with the financial requirements–it also wouldn’t be bad if Sony could give me an action cam so I could capture some of the fantastic rides that I will do.  To see the world from the saddle of a bike seat is beyond what you can see through a car window.

I want my writing to appear in print. I am not sure what form this will take, but I still dream of my words on a tactile page being consumed by people, discussed by people, and argued about by people drinking overpriced coffee and eating deserts with purposefully unpronounceable names which somehow make them more expensive.

Keep shooting for the stars! As for women you almost met, I think it was one of those posts that got me following you to begin with.

  3. Anthony, I always enjoy your blog. Remember, I always say (even on my short 30 minute tv career lol) “It’s better to aim for the stars and miss, than to aim for shit and hit” All the best to you and keep it up!

  4. keep sending your writing in to publications.
    one day, they’ll say yes!
(n.b. i like your sentence about the women you never meet)
