With the rise of craft brewing, and the plethora of choices it has produced, the naming of beer has transcended marketing to be more on par with Roller Derby names or WWE characters. Perhaps it’s best if we don’t take it all too seriously.
Today’s Perfect Moment is remembering that I had this beauty tucked away. I translate it as Black Heart, but I could be wrong. My French lessons were a long time ago and mostly I remember my beautiful language lab teacher Veronique, more than the actual language points we were studying.
I have mixed opinions about naming the beer black heart. My inner Goth thinks its cool, but the writer in me things it is a bit overplayed. I mean, is the person drinking it the one with the black heart? Is the brewmeister the one with the black heart? Does the beer itself have a black heart? I am all for deep questions while drinking, but they should revolved around life and whether we really have liberty,……or 80’s TV trivia.
Since my favourite beer is called (in translation) the End of the World, I shouldn’t be too critical of this one. They could have gone more ridiculous and called it “A Pint of Blood” or “Hell on Earth” or “Agony and Ecstasy” –any accidental guessing at a real beer name is just that, accidental. Any inspiration for a craft brewer, although accidental, will require some compensation (product or money).
The beer was good. I drank it while watching some favourite movies. It was a quiet night of Perfect.
Perfect night indeed! I don’t often forget about “treats” I have, but when I do and then find them they taste even better.
