I am appealing to all of you fit people who read my blog (or find it by way of lucky accident). I would like some advice about nutrition for my longer cycling rides.
Currently I am using the hammer line of products (Heed and Perpetuum) and either Lara Bars or Cliff Bars. I like the heed, but I am liking the Perpetuum less (you can tell because I can’t even be bothered to check if I spelled the name correctly). Partly it is taste. Partly it is because it leaves my bottles smelling something horrible.
I am just looking for recommendations for something with good useful calories and anything that can help me through the ride. Please keep in mind that I live in Canada, and may not have access to everything you suggest.
Thanks for your help.
Hi Anthony, have you thought about making your own cycling fuel, that way you know exactly what you are eating, and you can always adapt to suit your taste. Its also a lot cheaper. Scratch Labs have some good recipes, their rice cakes are really good, see http://blog.skratchlabs.com/blog/fig-and-honey-rice-cakes You can make them in lots of flavours, savoury or sweet. I also think for a quick fix you cannot beat a banana, easy to digest, so good if you are cycling for a long time.
I will definitely check that out. Thanks.
Nuts and raisins. In NZ they call it scroggin.
