Does Wireless Make Better Work?

For the longest time, I was a desktop person.  I never really wanted a laptop computer.  I kept the computer in an upstairs room, quite a distance from everything else.  I guess I bought into the whole “home office” idea.

When I finally bought a laptop, things changed.  I went wireless, freeing myself to surf the internet from anywhere in the house.  Oddly enough, the place I chose was next to the television.  This allowed me to surf not only during commercials, but also during programs as well.  This allowed me to be more productive.

Or so I thought.

Actually, having so much access to the computer hasn’t really been good for me.  It really allowed me to procrastinate several tasks.  I subconsciously figured that if I couldn’t get it done in the space of a commercial, then I should save it for later–and in case you didn’t figure that out, later usually meant never.

Deciding that I had to get down to some distraction free work, I moved the computer back to the “home office”.  Surprise! Surprise!  I actually got some stuff done.  I might have to keep the computer here on a more permanent basis.

Looking at this in broader terms, maybe organizing the physical things in one’s life, probably helps organize the mental aspect as well.  That might be oversimplifying things, or maybe some very lazy philosophy, but somehow it rings true.  I might have to straighten up more of my house to see if this can affect me more positively.
