Today is/was teacher’s day in Korea. Since I don’t live or work in Korea, this isn’t usually an important fact in my life. Today was different, though. My students and I went out for ice-cream and waffles, which was a rare event in itself. I had not realized that almost the entire class would be there. I was touched by their attendance.
The perfect moment occurred when all of the Korean students sang the traditional teacher’s day song (complete with translation). They told me they wanted me to understand their heart. I didn’t really understand the song, but the intention was clear. Needless to say it was today’s perfect moment, hands down.
